The Goal for the day is to unleash the mystery of fluid acrylic as a water media painting medium.

This workshop will cover the use of fluid acrylics in the manner of watercolor. We will use them to make transparent washes and glazes, opaque passages and dry brush.

There will be a demonstration of these techniques to begin the day and as needed throughout the day. Marie will provide supporting informative handouts about the use of fluid acrylics. There will be plenty of time to paint and for individual attention and a break for lunch.  No lunch facilities onsite.

Autumn Mist in the Organ Mountains (fluid acrylics)

A few reasons why Marie likes fluid acrylics used as watercolor

    1. Acrylic dries brighter and close to the value it appears when wet.

    2. Repeated glazing won’t disturb previous layers of paint

    3. Masking Fluid can be applied over dry acrylic paint without removing color when the masking is removed.

    4. Transparent, translucent and opaque layers are easy to do with acrylic paint

    5. Acrylic is very durable under glass or varnish.

Balloons Over The Rio (in fluid acrylics)

    Marie's experience with fluid acrylics:
Marie has used fluid acrylic paints for years. She became enthusiastic about them when they were introduced to the acrylic market. Their versatility runs the gamut of watercolor like transparent washes to opaque applications. They can be painted on many surfaces including watercolor paper and boards, which are her preferred supports. She has presented demos and taught classes using fluid acrylics as water media for NMWS SC and others. She has entered fluid acrylic paintings in Gallery Shows, Art Forms and AOPH Shows, and a fluid acrylic painting, titled “Oregon Smoke and Bear Grass” was accepted into the 2019 WFWS Show, and another fluid acrylic painting won Best Acrylic painting in a Grant County show.
