"Take your Brush to the Wild Side"
When asked to this demo I was initially scared. I realized it was time to take a look at my work again. Who am I now as a watercolor artist?
I know my nursing and traveling let me observe and learn from many artists. Slowly I absorbed skills and techniques but most of all I started to trust my creativity.
I don't try to paint the perfect anymore, I want to paint the mystery, the story, and the feeling. I have become fascinated with patterns, the essence and energy of life. I hope to give you permission to be freer, challenge yourself, paint from your creative soul, and most of all have fun.
MJ Milz
From my earliest memories, I wanted to ride a horse and be an artist. During my forty-eight year career as a labor and delivery nurse and a mother of three children, I painted and rode horses at every opportunity.
My work represents my life and experiences in northern Maine, the Catskills, Hudson Valley, Yuma desert and the Four Corners of the Southwest.
Since my retirement from nursing, I have moved to Albuquerque where I am fulfilling my dream of being a full-time artist.
My chosen medium is watercolor because of the lack of control and
unpredictability it allows. My spirit becomes free as I weave complex
patterns of light and dark shapes and colors that connect reality, mystery, beauty and imagination for the viewer. The birth of a child, the creation of a painting are part of the same miracle of life in my heart and my painting.
