NEGATIVE PAINTING FOR POSITIVE EFFECTS!
In this two day workshop being in a Negative space is not a bad thing! We will be discussing and working with negative space, an area of a painting that is so often over looked. What is negative space? It is that area around the image you are painting the background and spaces in between.
Negative space has so many possibilities from creating interesting and exciting darks to beautiful lost and found lines and even improving paintings that are almost done but need something more.
We will spend day one getting to understand negative space with a few exercises and prepping for paintings the next day.
I love teaching this technique, it can be a very effective tool if you are trying to loosen up and for taking your paintings to the next level. I am looking forward to exploring the balance between Negative and Positive space with you and I know you all will find something positive about negative space!
Things you will need:
- Paints (good quality, I use Daniel Smiths but Winsor Newton and Holbein are also good)
- Paper cut into two (2) 9 x 12 and two (2) 11 x 14 (good quality, I use Arches 140#)
- Brushes
- Water container
- Paper towels
I will provide reference photos of subject matter but if you would like to bring your own please print your reference photo out in a 9 x 12. Make your reference photo simple like a flower, animal or small still life. It is easier to study the technique if your subject is not too complicated.
If you have any questions about the supply list please feel free to email me at: tmstallard[at]comcast.net
I am so looking forward to meeting you all and sharing and painting together. For printable information, download the Workshop Flyer and Tina's bio.
