Nancy Frost Begin, NMWS will be the guest demo artist for the Rio Bravo Watercolorists on November 20, Wednesday at 10:30.  We meet at the International Museum of Art on Montana and our meetings are open to the public.  She will be discussing What Are You Willing to Change?

The art of simplification means to “eliminate the unnecessary to let the necessary to its  job”. Hans Hoffmann . The process begins by finding and grouping together shapes to make a more simple “compound “ shape. A tracing of your image or reference material will help you see the compound shapes, related through value. If you remove the unnecessary you will have space to work with the elements/principles of design. Then to make your work stronger, powerful and personal, ask yourself  “what is it you are willing to change”? Color, shape, scale , space or form? I will have examples of one image, changed five times. Each change was a thoughtful challenge with surprising results. I look forward to sharing some new ideas and to create some excitement dialogues with other artists in the area.
