Mary Ann BeckwithExperimental Watermedia: The Brush and Beyond |
|
October 5 – 8, 2010 EXPO NM, Fine Arts Building The Brush and Beyond Workshop will be an art altering experience! The energy-filled days will explore creative methods of water media application including texturing and building layers of paint. Participants will be exposed to new techniques and materials that will allow them to better express their visions and ideas through their paintings. The methods taught and materials used will be suitable for both representational and abstract imagery. Demonstrations and discussions will encompass and focus on composition and design, how to recharge your work, sources of inspiration and the business of being an artist. Each day will include plenty of time for painting and optional critiques. The heart of the workshop will be to develop a strong sense of style in water media and mixed media, while emphasizing the creative approach to making images. New tools will be constructed from commonly found elements and materials. |
|
For example, through exposure to the various new materials and
techniques, each workshop attendee will find themselves better expressing their individual ideas and
visions in their work. Demonstrations and discussions will include exploring mixed media and
approaching the subject with a fresh eye toward composition and design.
Throughout the workshop, the business of being an artist and techniques for setting goals and priorities will be discussed. Each participant will discover new sources of inspiration and how to network as an artist. |

The New Mexico Watercolor Society sponsors at least two workshops per year in the city of Albuquerque. Normally,
these workshops are taught by the jurors that have been invited to evaluate our exhibits in the Spring and Fall
each year. The NMWS - together with the Arts Alliance and Pastel Society of New Mexico - also sponsors MasterWorks, one of the most important juried exhibitions in the Southwest. All three art associations offer workshops during MasterWorks, plus several demonstrations. Recent Jurors that have taught in our workshops include: Gerald Brommer, Jane Hofstetter, Robbie Laird, Jan Fabian Wallake, Tony Couch and Ron Ranson. Workshop application forms are posted on our web site when we start accepting applications. Most workshops are between 3 and 5 full days. Members of the New Mexico Watercolor Society have first priority for registrations. Information concerning workshops may be obtained from Gina Lubeck at workshops@nmwatercolorsociety.org
