As the southern part of the state of New Mexico grew, the need for a local chapter of the NMWS was recognized by a small group of active artists in the Las Cruces area. A proposal for the Chapter’s formation was presented to and approved by the NMWS Board in October of 2001. Over 45 new members joined the 17 existing NMWS members to begin the operation of this new Southern Chapter (NMWS-SC) that continues to grow and serve New Mexico’s southern counties. We now have about 100 members.
Our meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month (excluding June through August or unless announced otherwise) in Las Cruces. Until further notice they will be in the Craft Room of the Good Samaritan Retirement Home Administration Building, 3011 Buena Vida Circle, beginning at 2 p.m.
See the Calendar for our meeting schedule and programs.
If you are interested in the medium of watercolor, join us for these lively and informative programs on topics of interest to watercolorists. Depending on the program, a nominal fee may be charged, but most programs are free and guests are welcome.
The NMWS-SC holds three exhibits on average each year in Las Cruces: a Members’ Fall Show; a show in February in conjunction with For The Love of Art month; and a juried & judged Spring Members’ Show. We also participate each spring in a watercolor show put on by the Deming Arts Council. Information about upcoming and past shows can be found on the
Southern Chapter Exhibits page.
Each year we sponsor workshops in Las Cruces, generally one- to three-days in length. Details about upcoming workshops and information on participating are provided on our
Workshops page.
