The Southern Chapter has a full year of informative programs for members and guests at our meetings from September through May. Our group meets on the second Sunday of each month at 2 pm., in the Good Samaritan Arts and Crafts Room, 3011 Buena Vida Circle, LC, unless announced otherwise. All are welcome to attend. There may be a nominal fee charged if a non-member is providing a specific program.

February 12, 2012
Come to the program, Your Favorite Flower Painting, and bring your favorite floral painting. Everyone will have the opportunity, in small informal groups, to show the painting they created, to describe their inspiration behind the painting, and to tell the story of the sentiment they wanted to convey or invoke. Listen to an introduction on the creative process by Barbara L. Dean, beginning watercolorist and retired Clinical Psychologist, Psy.D, and enjoy time together with your fellow members!

March 11, 2012
Victoria West, watercolorist and former gallery owner from Silver City, will present the program, All About Critiquing. Vicki will provide information on a number of topics: how to critique your own paintings, what judges and galleries look for, and how to conduct a critique group. This program is three weeks before the Southern Chapter Spring Show Deadline, thereby allowing members to apply what they learn to their entries. Fee: $5 for members and non-members to cover speaker and out-of-town mileage expenses.

April 15th, 2012 (date changed to the third Sunday of the month)
Members will provide a wealth of information at three separate Learning Tables. Anne-Marie Rizzi will discuss internet resources helpful to watercolorists, including sites of suppliers, general information, discussion forums, blogs, and on-line videos. Penny Duncklee will show us how to frame watercolor paintings without glass or plexi. The third table is available--contact Arlene Tugel fullersres@msn.com.

May 20th, 2012 (date changed to the third Sunday of the month)
Marilyn Gendron, artist, designer and instructor from Silver City, will demonstrate techniques to Create Glowing Color in Watercolor. Her materials and techniques include a transparent color palette, using resists to protect your whites, color glazing and mixing, juxtaposing complimentary colors for vibrancy, and how to lift and soften color. Marilyn has a degree in Fine Arts and Art Education from the University of Oregon and taught art in Australia as well as local schools in southern New Mexico. A member of the Mimbres Region Arts Council, she has exhibited in local and regional juried and invitational shows, and is known primarily for her watercolors of the New Mexico landscape. Fee: $5 for members and non-members to cover speaker and out-of-town mileage expenses.

If you have questions or comments or ideas for programs, you may contact Arlene Tugel at fullersres@msn.com.
