Lannie Alexander, NMWS

Lannie has always loved the arts and received her BA in Art Education from the University of Colorado.

She studied, lived and taught in San Miguel de Allende, Cuernavaca and Mexico City.

After receiving her MA in TESOL from UNM, she taught ESL for APS always integrating art into her lessons.

Besides living in Mexico and Korea, she has traveled extensively in Southeast Asia and Europe.

The importance of art for children is a strong belief of hers. She is a board member of both Art in the Schools and the newly founded La Mesa Arts Academy where she also teaches.

Animal welfare is another of her passions. She is a past board member of the Alliance for Albuquerque Animals, a nonprofit advocacy group for our Albuquerque shelter animals. She recently received the Milagro Award for Humane Education from Animal Protection of NM. She was able to combine her love of art and animals in some innovative. educational projects.

“Watercolor is exciting in the way it lends itself to the duet of ‘technical skill’ and ‘happy accidents’. My paintings reflect this as well as my love of color. I enjoy abstracting in experimental ways while maintaining the principles of good design.”

Lannie is a signature and board member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society.
